Interiors has graced Evergreen with its remodeling
services for over 27 years. However, the owner and
founder, Jim Attalla, didn't even begin with ideas
of starting a remodeling service. Jim grew up in
Akron, Ohio, and obtained a speech pathology degree
from Akron University; however, that path did not
seem to work out for him. Fortunately, he was still
young enough to take on a new career. In 1975, a friend
and he started a small upholstery business. When
this just wasn't enough, they decided to take the
business to the next level and began to form High
Country Interiors. For this, Jim began courses at
Red Rocks Community College studying interior
design, and to this day is continuously educating
himself about the business. High Country
Interiors specializes in window, wall and floor
covering, cabinets and countertops, and appliances.
In order to promote his business in the community,
Jim does a lot of advertising for High Country
Interiors. He places ads in local papers, manages a
web page, distributes circulars, and the company's
logos can be seen on the sides of its vans.
Jim knows that
there are both advantages and disadvantages to
owning a small business in a small town. He has
learned that a small business lets him have a
close-knit relationship with his customers, allows
him to be more connected with his community, and
provides a more relaxed work environment. However,
he has to work a lot harder to compete with the big
box stores located in Denver. In the 27 years
operating his business, Jim has achieved and
learned far more than he had ever expected.
Although getting the business started was not
always easy, he soon found that it was all worth
it. Jim says, "The most satisfying thing has been
the ability to help those who work for me." He has
also learned that nothing is set in stone and you
should learn something new everyday and build off
of that to achieve bigger and better
things. To
