been a year since Dorie Collier has brought her
experience in the healthcare industry to Evergreen
and the Denver metropolitan area. Life Plus, LLC is
a wellness company that transferred to the area in
hopes of helping local companies cut healthcare
costs by helping their employees to live healthier.
The company was originally started in Oshkosh,
Wisconsin, by Dorie twelve years ago. Looking for a
change, Dorie sold her company and moved with her
family to Evergreen. When asked why she relocated
her business, she said, "I love the natural beauty
of Colorado and the great people who are open to
healthier lifestyles." Dorie,
a registered nurse, enjoys working in this field
because she gets a chance to make a difference by
helping people reduce their health risks. Although
people in Colorado are known for their openness to
alternative lifestyles, Dorie believes there may be
limited room for companies like hers to grow. Life
Plus' main marketing tools are networking and free
trials of the health risk assessment. Dorie relies
on networking to spread the word of her
business. Another
function of Life Plus is to manage health physicals
for insurance companies. When a person applies for
an insurance policy, the insurance company hires
Life Plus to assess the person's health risks and
report back to the insurance company. The health
factors reported in the physical determine whether
or not the client receives a health insurance
policy. Life
style counseling is conducted on a very personal
level, consisting of discussions on eating habits
and exercise programs. As in other areas of
business, the Internet has changed the healthcare
industry by allowing health risk assessments to be
administered online and by quickly transmitting
information directly to the client. Teaching
healthy living habits to others motivates Dorie to
practice her own teachings, while also trying to
better her family's health and the health of
everyone in the Evergreen community. To
